Thankfully, everywhere in Sussex is very easily reached from London. Brighton takes a mere 50 minutes, while you can reach Eastbourne or Chichester in 90m, and Hastings in 2h. You can reach all of these destinations without even changing trains. London Victoria is the starting point, and trains run very frequently. For example, services to Brighton run every 10 to 15 minutes. So, you will be eating ice cream on the beach or enjoying a pint in one of the many pubs in no time. Usual calling points along the way include Clapham Junction, Gatwick Airport, Three Bridges, Haywards Heath and Preston Park (Brighton). So, you can start your journey from one of those locations if it's more convenient.

Most trains only stop once (at Clapham Junction or Gatwick), making for a very fast journey from London to Brighton. The main train operator for the county is Southern Railway, which covers the vast majority of Sussex. When transferring from one London station to another, your travel on the London Underground is included. For example, when travelling from Manchester to Brighton you will arrive at London Euston.
