About Flixbus

German long-distance bus company Flixbus was founded after the long-distance bus market in Germany was liberalised in 2013. Since then, it has dominated long-distance travel in Germany by bus with a market share of around 90%, even though there are around 300 competitors.

Coach travel is a great alternative to carpooling and has become extremely popular among budget-minded travellers since its launch in Germany. Flixbus works with regional subcontractors who operate the respective buses. The company has recently expanded into other European countries such as France, Italy and the Netherlands. Flixbus connects around 1,200 destinations in 22 different countries, with a total of 200,000 connections per day between Europe's towns and cities.

Flixbus onboard facilities

Toilets

All Flixbus buses are equipped with toilets on board so that even long trips without stop pose no problem.

By default, free WiFi is available for all passengers aboard the long-distance buses. A few routes are excluded from this service, but the company is working on providing this service across the board.

Power sockets

Sockets are also available on most Flixbus buses at each seat, so you won't have any problem if you need to recharge your electronic devices.

Snacks and drinks

Snacks and drinks can be purchased from the bus driver.

Flixbus tickets and prices

As a general rule, the earlier you book your ticket, the cheaper it is. That's because ticket prices depend on a system called yield management – prices are set for a route based on a variety of data, such as how often it is booked and how many tickets are available.

As an example, you would be less likely to get a ticket for the cheapest price on a popular route such as Berlin to Munich than for a less travelled route like Siegen to Darmstadt.

Likewise, prices are expected to rise around holiday seasons as the number of travellers typically increase on these days.

Booking your Flixbus tickets

You can check Flixbus timetables online via our website or app, as well as compare bus and train offers. With one click, you will be redirected to the booking form of Flixbus.

Discounts and offers

To get cheap Flixbus tickets, it’s best to book in advance. The earlier you book, the greater your chance at getting a cheap ticket. Flixbus also often does special promotions and savings deals, so it's worth keeping an eye out for those.

Group travel

Flixbus offers discounts for groups of three to 40 people. When booking tickets for several people at once, the discount will automatically be displayed in the booking flow should a group ticket be cheaper than the standard fare.

Larger groups can hire a whole bus via www.mieten.flixbus.de, which picks the group up at a location of their choice. Since plans may change, a free cancellation is possible up to 14 days before departure.

Travelling with Flixbus

Luggage

The following baggage regulations apply: Each passenger is entitled to carry one piece of luggage and one additional piece of hand luggage on the bus for free. The maximum dimensions of 80 x 50 x 30 cm or 42 x 30 x 18 cm must not be exceeded. Theoretically, weight restrictions of 20 and seven kilograms are also applicable, but bags and cases are not weighed when boarding the bus.

Pets

Unfortunately, you can not take any pets with you on Flixbus coaches. Guide and assistance dogs are excluded from these regulations. Those can be taken aboard any bus - please contact Flixbus at least 36 hours before departure and inform them that you need your dog with you on your journey.

Bicycles

Bicycles in standard sizes can be taken on most buses for an additional charge of 9 Euros - these are transported on bicycle carriers attached to the outside of the bus. Simply specify the number of bicycles you’d like to take while booking your tickets, these will then be included in the ticket price.

Travelling with children

Children up to the age of 15 travel at a reduced rate. If there are special offers on the selected route, they’ll be displayed in the booking flow. Children under the age of three must travel in a child seat that can be attached with a three-point harness - this must be brought by you as Flixbus do not provide special seats for children. Minors over the age of 16 can travel unaccompanied on any Flixbus route.
