Are there dedicated train services for airports?

Yes, there are several train services which ferry passengers to and from UK airports. For the London airports, the following services are available:

  • Heathrow Express: Paddington station to Heathrow in 15 minutes.
  • Stansted Express: Liverpool Street station to Stansted in 47 minutes.
  • Gatwick Express: Victoria station to Gatwick in 30 minutes.

Most airports will have a train station attached to the airport, or at most a short bus ride away. You can easily catch trains to Birmingham International station for Birmingham airport, Luton Airport Parkway for Luton, and Manchester Airport station for Manchester.

How do I save money on trains to the airport?

There are plenty of ways you can save a few pennies on your airport transfer. Firstly, use a Railcard. You can save 30% on a full-price ticket. What's more, you can buy Railcards directly from Trainline and store them on your phone - no fumbling around for that paper copy. Secondly, book in advance. The cheapest fares are often found a few weeks in advance, so have a look a few weeks before flying and bag a bargain.
