The privately owned Westbahn has been operating on Austria's railways since 2011. Initially, it ran between Vienna and Salzburg, but today Westbahn trains run several times a day to Innsbruck, Bregenz, Munich, Stuttgart, Rosenheim, St. Johann im Pongau and Lindau. Westbahn has become an integral part of Austrian rail transport. Since then, Westbahn has been doing everything in its power to live up to its high quality standards every day with its excellence, the warmth of its employees and its ambition. The dedicated crew and technological innovations contribute to the comfort of passengers on board.

With its fleet of 15 blue, white and green double-decker trains, Westbahn focuses on high travel comfort and top quality in three comfort classes. In addition to its trains with fast passenger exchange, Westbahn scores particularly well with its punctuality. To make travelling even easier and more relaxed, Westbahn offers travellers Relax Check-in. Travellers can check in themselves, enjoy the journey and collect bonus points (Westpoints) at the same time.

Westbahn timetable

The Westbahn service departs from Vienna Westbahnhof and Vienna Hütteldorf station and passes through St. Pölten, Amstetten, Linz, Wels, Attnang-Puchheim and Vöcklabruck before arriving in Salzburg. Since April 2022, the service has continued through Rosenheim and Munich East to Munich Central Station. In December 2022, the route via Kufstein and Wörgl to Innsbruck was added to the timetable.

On average, Westbahn trains can cover the 186-mile journey between Vienna and Salzburg in just under 2 hours. From Vienna to Munich, the journey time is less than 4 hours and lastly, you can get from Vienna to Innsbruck in around 4 hours and 15 minutes.

Useful Information about Westbahn trains

Free WiFi 

Passengers who want to work during their travel time can connect to the free WiFi. Westbahn offer their own wireless network for surfing: Westlan. After a short login, you can surf the Internet with your smartphone, tablet or laptop. 

Toilets

Westbahn trains are equipped with toilets. The train’s three middle carriages have separate toilets for men and women. In the wheelchair-accessible carriage, passengers will find a wheelchair-accessible toilet.

Accessibility

Thanks to the low-floor design, the trains of the Westbahn are barrier-free. Stepless entry is guaranteed by the sliding step, which closes the gap between the train and the edge of the platform when the doors are opened. Wheelchair users or parents with prams can easily get on and off. Wheelchair spaces can be reserved separately in the wheelchair-accessible carriage.

Pets 

Travelling with your pet costs €2* per animal. Animals transported in containers travel free. However, if the animal occupies or blocks a seat, the full fare is payable. Dog owners are also required to wear a lead and muzzle.
