Trains to Plumpton

Situated on the East Coastway Line between Wivelsfield and Lewes, Plumpton train station serves the East Sussex village of Plumpton Green, Plumpton Racecourse, and the surrounding hamlets. The actual village of Plumpton is 3 km to the south of the station. Trains are operated by Southern who provide a typical off-peak service of one train in each direction. The fastest journey time from Plumpton to London Victoria is 1 hour.  

The village of Plumpton lies within the South Downs National Park; the peak of Plumpton Plain is its highest point. Plumpton Racecourse is a National Hunt jump horse racing course just to the south of the train station. The first race meeting was held here in 1884.  

Plumpton train station was originally opened in 1863. It has two platforms which both have step-free access, though platform 1 has a steep ramp. The platforms are connected by a footbridge with stairs and a level crossing on the nearby Station Road. Plumpton Racecourse can be entered via a second footbridge with stairs on platform 2, the Station Road level crossing from platform 2 or the ramp access on platform 1. A ticket office and vending machine can be found in the station concourse building located on platform 1. Local bus services stop nearby on Station Road.
