Passengers arrive at a Falmer station that looks much as it did when it opened in 1890, with its solid brick station building and canopies above the platform, but the village it serves has changed beyond recognition in the past fifty years. Falmer, on the outskirts of Brighton, is the location of the University of Sussex and University of Brighton campuses, as well as the new Falmer Stadium, home of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club.
Regular services to Falmer include trains to Brighton, Seaford, Lewes and Ore, via Hastings and Eastbourne. On match days, there are extra services to Falmer to and from Lewes and Brighton. Both university campuses and the stadium are within walking distance of the station, with the University of Sussex to the north and the University of Brighton to the south. The original village, built around a pond, is to the east of the station beyond the stadium.
