Southease railway station lies just outside the small village of Southease. It was constructed at the turn of the 20th century by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway and was originally called Southease and Rodmell Halt, though it was renamed in the early ‘80s. Interestingly, there was a racecourse next to the station along the River Ouse between the ‘20s and ‘40s. It’s a basic, unstaffed station that serves just 13,000 people a year. Though there is no ticket office, there are self-service machines, or they can be bought online prior to travel. Other facilities include a level crossing, a footbridge linking the two platforms and waiting shelters, but little else. There is an hourly direct service to Brighton in 24 minutes and two an hour direct to Seaford in 13 minutes.
When you disembark at Southease railway station, you’ll be in the heart of the South Downs, a 1,600-square-kilometre national park made up of scenic chalk hills and woodland where you can lace up your walking boots and head off along the picturesque footpaths.
