Trains to Hampden Park

Hampden Park is a residential area about two miles north of Eastbourne, a large seaside town in East Sussex. Opened in 1888 and originally called Willingdon, its local station sits on the East Coastway Line, and has one of the busiest level crossings in the country - it sees an average of fourteen train movements an hour off-peak, as trains leave the station towards Brighton, Eastbourne, London Victoria and Ore. The station takes its name from a nearby open space, formerly part of the Ratton Estate owned by Lord Willingdon. It's home to sprawling woodland and a large lake, and has a population of grey squirrels, ducks, swans, herons and Canada geese. The park is just five minutes' walk east of the station, passing local shops on Brassey Avenue. For more extensive shopping and the chance to relax by the sea, head south to Eastbourne, just one stop away.

Station details & facilities

Hampden Park's main station building contains a staffed ticket counter and waiting area. Double doors lead on to platform 1, and a side gate provides direct access to the platform from the car park. Platform 2 can be accessed via a footbridge, but for step-free access you'll need to use the alleyway off Mountfield Road - it's just over the level crossing. There are customer help points, ticket machines, benches and shelters on both platforms.
