Southampton Airport has one of the most convenient train to airport connections in Europe. For this reason, many passengers take the train to get there for convenience and to save on costs.

Southampton Airport terminal is around 4 miles north of Southampton city centre, located within the Borough of Eastleigh. The terminal is only 1-minute walk from Southampton Airport Parkway train station, which is only 7 to 10 minutes’ train journey away from Southampton Central train station (operated by CrossCountry and South Western Railway). Trains run approximately every 10 to 20 minutes Monday to Saturday, and at slightly reduced times on Sunday.

Getting to Southampton Airport by train

Trainline makes it easy to book cheap train tickets to Southampton Airport Parkway train station. This will save you time and money on taxis and airport parking, meaning more cash to spend on your holiday. We recommend you book well in advance of travelling to get the cheapest fares. National Railcards can also save you an extra 1/3 off an adult’s journey and 60% off a kid’s one.

Two train companies, CrossCountry and South Western Railway, run direct train services to Southampton Airport Parkway from various locations across the UK. These include Winchester, Bournemouth, Reading, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle and London Waterloo. Southampton Airport Parkway train station also has direct trains (operated by CrossCountry and South Western Railway) running from Southampton Central. This provides easy access from the mainland British train network.

Trains from Southampton Central to Southampton Airport Parkway run every 10 to 20 minutes from Monday to Saturday, and at slightly reduced times on Sunday. They operate from around 05:00 (around 07:00 on Sundays) to around midnight. The journey takes 7 to 10 minutes. If you have an early flight the next day, you can stay in the Premier Inn hotel, which is only 5 minutes’ walk from Southampton Airport terminal.

Things to do at Southampton Airport

From Southampton Airport Parkway train station, the airport is only a 1-minute away over the footbridge and across the road. Once you enter Southampton Airport terminal, you’ll find the check-in desks on your left and the security gates will be right in front of you.

There’s a World Duty-Free shop after security with a selection of spirits, confectionery, cosmetics and other products. After this, if you’re hungry or thirsty, you can grab a drink and snack in Costa Coffee or a meal and glass of wine at the Olive Tree café bar upstairs. Southampton Airport terminal also has a WHSmith, so you can pick up what you need before your flight.
