An important stop for trains between London and the south coast, Winchester station is every inch the traditional Victorian railway building, with a crisp white facade, a smart canopy and a prominent black and white clock over its main entrance. The station has been welcoming visitors to the city since 1839 and was renovated in 2004, adding a second ticket office. More recent upgrades include a new footbridge incorporating lifts, and an extension of the car park.
Trains to Winchester take just an hour from London Waterloo, and within a 10-minute walk, visitors can be in the historic heart of the city. Attractions include the huge Gothic cathedral, the 15th-century market cross and the Victorian Guildhall, plus a wealth of independent shops and restaurants.
