Our guide to booking senior citizen train tickets will provide you with all the information you need to make your next day out by train a breeze. From easy ways to save money on train tickets to senior discounts cards, we’ve got you covered. So, first things first...

At what age can you buy senior train tickets?

Whilst there’s no such thing as an official senior citizen train ticket, there are plenty of discount cards you can sign up to when you reach a certain age.

Most senior citizen discounts cards are available to people aged 60 and over, although some start from age 50.

How to get cheap train tickets for senior citizens

Buy a Senior Railcard

For just £30 a year, anyone aged 60+ can get 1/3 off train travel in Britain with a Senior Railcard. You can also buy a 3-year Senior Railcard for just £70.

Enjoy discounts on Standard and First Class Anytime, Off-Peak and Advance tickets, and link your Senior Railcard with an Oyster Card to get 1/3 off Off-Peak travel around London too. Keep scrolling to buy your Senior Railcard with us today.

Travel Off-Peak

If you’re flexible on when you can travel, taking a train during Off-Peak train times (in most cases, anything outside of Monday to Friday rush hours) is usually cheaper and a lot less busy! When booking with us, we show journey as either Peak, Off-Peak or Super Off-Peak when you search for tickets, so just look for either Off-Peak or Super Off-Peak for cheaper prices.

Book in advance

If you know when you want to travel ahead of time, booking in advance means tickets are likely to be available at a cheaper price compared to booking on the day. Train companies in the UK usually release Advance tickets 12 weeks before the departure date. If you know when you’d like to travel and it’s more than 12 weeks away, sign up for our Ticket Alert service and we’ll email you when your tickets go sale.
