The train from Southampton to Glasgow will give you some great views of the West of England, before passing through the Peak District and the Lake District en route to Scotland. The trip starts with a CrossCountry train, followed by a change at Wolverhampton for an Avanti West Coast (formerly Virgin Trains) service. CrossCountry trains all come with a First Class option and there's a buffet car on most trains, if not, then a buffet cart will provide an at-seat service. Most CrossCountry trains on this route come with a Quiet Coach and there's free WiFi in First Class (passengers seated in Standard must pay a small fee for the service).
Southampton to Glasgow by train will take you from the South Coast to the Scottish Lowlands, giving you a chance to see everything that the British countryside has to offer. After rolling through the Chilterns and Wessex Downs you’ll pass through the university city of Oxford, before heading through Coventry and Birmingham, and ending in Wolverhampton where you'll need to change to Avanti West Coast (formerly Virgin Trains).
Leaving Wolverhampton, it’s your chance to get a window seat so you can get the best view for the northern national parks, including the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. Following the climb through the North of England, you’ll breeze past Carlisle and into Scotland. After a short trip through the Lowlands, you’ll pull into the wonderful Glasgow Central station.
