Taking the train from Paris to Cannes

SNCF runs around 11 trains from Paris to Cannes on a daily basis, their high-speed TGV and OUIGO services offer journey times of just over five hours – that’s quicker than driving a great way to travel from city centre to city centre without the hassle of airport transfers.

OUIGO is the low-cost brand of French rail company SNCF, who operate trains in France and Spain. In France, all seats on OUIGO are Second Class and tickets can only be purchased online. You can also pay for additional extras, such as reserving a seat in the ‘quiet area’, at-seat power sockets and extra luggage. OUIGO has been operating in Spain since May 2021, and their trains include an onboard bar and a premium class of service called OUIGO Plus.

Travelling from Paris to Cannes by train
To get to Cannes and the south of France, I booked a ticket for a TGV INOUI train, leaving Paris from Gare de Lyon. I travelled in Seconde (Standard Class). After 5 hours, I arrived at Cannes train station.
What I enjoyed about the journey
Travelling on high-speed trains is very practical! Our train left on time, and we quickly sped through the country towards the south of France. I really appreciated being able to discover the French countryside during the journey.
What I didn’t like about the journey
As the journey was 5 hours long, I would have appreciated improved facilities on board. Our train carriage didn’t have any plug sockets available. I also thought that the catering service on board the train could have been better. What’s more, although the 5-hour trip passed by relatively quickly, the seats weren’t particularly comfortable, and the legroom was quite limited.
If you have a lot of luggage, I’d recommend you arrive early to board the train, as there wasn’t a lot of storage space on board. I was also travelling at a particularly busy time so there were lots of people on board, but the train (and its toilets) weren’t very clean.
In conclusion, I was impressed with the time it took to get from Paris to Cannes by train, but the facilities on board the train could have been better.
