Trains to Liverpool
The Merseyrail train network provides services within the Liverpool area for those commuting into the city centre via either the Wirral Line or Nothern Line. Both of these routes supply 1 of Liverpool’s for train stations: Lime Street, Central, James Street and Moorfields, giving passengers easy access in and out of the city. Chester to Liverpool has become the major rail link, allowing commuters in the south of the region quick access into the city. During peak times, Chester to Liverpool trains run 4 services to the hour, giving commuters flexibility in their travel plans.
Once in Liverpool, there are plenty of attractions to see at the once European City of Culture. The Liver building stands tall among the Mersey skyline and is iconic for anyone visiting the city. Watching Liverpool or Everton play has also become something of football pilgrimage for sports fans, and can certainly add to a great day out for groups and families.
Discover where Merseyrail can take you
One of the main attractions that can be found on the Merseyrail train service is Chester Zoo, regarded as one of the best zoos in the world. Families on a day trip can see all kinds of wild life, including Black Rhino’s, Apes and Elephants, giving the whole family a wonderful experience and a chance to see rare animals up close. Just a short trip from Chester train station, passengers travelling in larger groups can take advantage of cheap train tickets with group saver discounts.
Merseyrail has operated as a singular franchise since 2003, bringing together the Northern and Wirral line under one company. As part of ongoing improvements for travel, a new fleet of trains have been announced to start running in 2019, as well as tram-trains to increase the rail network further. With Liverpool Lime Street serving as a major terminal for Merseyrail trains, passengers are able to connect onto longer train journeys with other TOC’s such as Virgin and Cross Country.
