Getting to Hull train station
Situated in the city centre, Hull train station can be found within the Hull Paragon Interchange – the integrated rail and bus station. On my way to Platform 7, I stopped to acknowledge the bronze statue of revered local poet Phillip Larkin. Since I had my digital ticket downloaded in my Trainline app, I didn’t have to bother queuing to collect a paper ticket. With a bit of time to kill, I stopped for a cup of tea at Starbucks and grabbed a newspaper for my journey from WHSmith.
Boarding the train
Given that I was travelling on an Off-Peak train on a Tuesday afternoon, the train was quiet. I found a comfortable seat right next to the window and connected my phone to the WiFi as it was free for all passengers regardless of seating class.
The journey
Despite the long distance from East Yorkshire to London, we arrived at Kings Cross station in a little over 2 and half hours – very impressive! The train provided by Hull Trains was clean and modern, and the views of the Great British countryside were so lovely, I barely read my newspaper.
Once I arrived in Kings Cross station, I took a moment to browse the Harry Potter shop and have my photo taken next to the famous Platform 9 ¾ from the film franchise. From there, it was a short walk to the Kings Cross St Pancras underground station, which is well-connected to the rest of the city through the Victoria, Northern, Piccadilly, Circle, Hammersmith and Metropolitan lines. I made my way to Kensington to explore the museums – it was a truly brilliant day!
