Located on the Tees Valley Line, Dinsdale train station serves the village of Middleton St George with regular Northern trains. Typical service sees two trains from Dinsdale per hour in each direction, Monday through Saturday. Eastbound services run to Middlesborough and Saltburn, while westbound trains continue to Darlington. Every two hours, a westbound train continues to Bishop Auckland. During morning peak periods, a limited-stop train continues on to Newcastle, calling at Darlington, Durham, and Chester-le-Street. On Sundays, service drops to become once-hourly in each direction.
Recently modernised, Dinsdale station today has new CCTV installed on both platforms and improved shelters and seating available for customer use. Tickets should be purchased ahead of time or from a guard on board the train, as Dinsdale does not have ticket provisions. Passenger information screens with departure and arrival data, as well as automated announcements, are available on both platforms. Both platforms have step-free access via steep ramps.
