Basingstoke station, with its clock towers and red brick, has a reassuringly traditional look in an area of town that has seen major changes in the past fifteen years.

Developed in the 1970s, The Malls, a shopping precinct south of the station, now looks much more the 21st century, and the 2002's Festival Place, next to the station, is home to over 200 shops to wander around, as well as a number of bars and restaurants on Festival Square.

From the railway station, the historic heart of Basingstoke, between the Haymarket and the Willis Museum on Market Place, is on the other side of the shopping centres. A few minutes' walk from both the station and the town centre lies Eastrop Park, with its green spaces, boating lake and jogging trails. The park hosts a wide range of events and concerts during the warmer months.
