Trains from Liverpool Airport
If you’re flying into Liverpool Airport, then the train can be a convenient way of getting to your final destination. With the airport’s excellent public transportation links, getting the train can save you money and time. The airport is 7.5 miles southeast of Liverpool city centre. To get from Liverpool Airport to Liverpool city centre, you can take a bus to Liverpool South Parkway station. Buses run from the airport 7 days a week, every 12-15 minutes during peak times.
You can then take a direct train from Liverpool South Parkway to Liverpool Lime Street, operated by East Midland Trains. Alternatively, you can take a Merseyrail service from Liverpool South Parkway to Liverpool Central station. Direct trains also run from Liverpool South Parkway station to many major cities in the UK. All this puts the whole of mainland Britain within easy reach of Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Getting to Liverpool from Liverpool Airport by train
With Trainline, you can book cheap train tickets from Liverpool South Parkway to anywhere within mainland UK. This will save you time and money on taxis and airport parking, which is great if you’re a little short of cash after your holiday. Trainline recommends you book well in advance of your journey for the lowest fares. National Railcards can save you 1/3 off adult fares and 60% off fares for kids.
Arriva and Stagecoach bus companies share the 86A bus service from Liverpool John Lennon Airport to Liverpool South Parkway train station. Buses 24/7 at intervals of 12-15 minutes during peak times Monday to Saturday and every 30 minutes on Sundays and late at night. The bus journey takes around 40 minutes. However, the 500 bus by Arriva also runs from Liverpool Airport terminal to Liverpool South Parkway. These buses aren’t as frequent, but the journey is quicker, taking only 20 minutes.
East Midlands Trains operate services from Liverpool South Parkway to Liverpool Lime Street stations. They operate 7 days a week, every 5 to 10 minutes during peak times. The journey takes 10 to 15 minutes. Services run from around 06:10 to 12:20 from Monday to Saturday, and around 08:10 to 23:45 on Sunday.
You can also get direct trains from Liverpool South Parkway to many UK cities such as Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds and Birmingham. This provides easy access to the rest of the UK. If your flight is arriving late or you have an early train the next morning, you can stay in the Hampton by Hilton hotel, just opposite Liverpool Airport terminal.

Things to do in Liverpool
Liverpool earned the title of European Capital of Culture in 2008 and, as a result, there’s a lot to do there. In fact, it houses more museums and galleries than any British city other than London, as well as 15 theatres and halls including the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
Liverpool Lime Street station and Liverpool Central station are both in the centre of Liverpool. From either station, it’s therefore only a short walk to Liverpool city centre, where there’s plenty of places to shop.
A little further west than this, around a 15-minute walk from Liverpool Lime Street, you’ll find Albert Dock, a UNESCO world heritage site rich in Victorian architecture. Around this area, is the Beatles Story museum, documenting the band which Liverpool is famous for.
In the evening, you can take a ferry across the Mersey and back, and then grab a Chinese in the oldest Chinatown in Europe, marvelling at the 200 dragons on the 15-metre high gate at the entrance.
