Things to do in Aberdeen

Aberdeen train station contains a WHSmith, Pumpkin Café and Hero’s Bar. There are also plenty more shops, bars and restaurants in the adjacent Union Square Shopping Centre. This is accessible through the station concourse, so you don’t need to go outside if it’s raining. However, whatever the weather, Aberdeen is well worth exploring. Scots call it the Granite City, due to much of granite construction work lifted from the Rubislaw Quarry.

Aberdeenshire county is also famous for its castles. One of the most famous of these is the 9th century Dunnottar Castle ruins, just 20 minutes south of Stonehaven, where Franco Zeffirelli’s Hamlet (1990) was filmed. To get there, you can take a ScotRail train from Aberdeen to Stonehaven.
