UK extreme heat travel advice and booking information

Last update: Wednesday 20th July 2022

Network Rail are warning passengers in England and Wales to only travel if absolutely necessary on Monday 18th July and Tuesday 19th July because of the forecast record-breaking temperatures.

Please check your journey before you travel, because Network Rail will be introducing speed restrictions on railway lines across the country to ensure the safe running of trains. Journeys will take significantly longer and there is a high likelihood of cancellations, delays and last-minute alterations.

If you no longer wish to travel, you will be entitled to a refund. Please submit your refund request via My Bookings or within our app under 'My Tickets'.

Advice for travelling by train in hot weather

If you do choose to travel during the heatwave, we recommend the following:

Check before you travel

There is likely to be disruption across the rail network due to the heat and speed restrictions in place. Check the status of your train before you head to the station.

Carry water with you

Ensure you have plenty of water to drink, wear cool clothing and take a handheld fan with you if possible.
