UK hot weather travel advice

There are heat-health alerts in place across parts of England this week due to very hot weather. High temperatures can affect railway infrastructure and may lead to disruption, including speed restrictions or amended timetables. Customers should check before they travel.

EMR travel advice during extreme heat (Friday 10th – Sunday 12th July)

East Midlands Railway has introduced temporary ticket easements due to the forecast extreme heat.

Valid: Friday 10th July – Tuesday 14th July

  • Customers are advised to travel only if their journey is essential due to the forecast extreme heat
  • If you're travelling on Friday 10th July, your ticket can also be used on East Midlands Railway services between Saturday 11th and Tuesday 14th July instead
  • If you decide not to travel, you can claim a fee-free refund for your ticket
  • Check East Midlands Railway before you travel for the latest service updates

If your train is cancelled or you decide not to travel, you can request a full refund from today via My Account or My Tickets in the app.

There may be disruptions across the rail network due to the heat. Check the status of your train before you head to the station.

Carry water with you

Ensure you have plenty of water to drink, wear cool clothing and take a handheld fan with you if possible.
