Touring the coast of southern France by rail is the ideal way to travel – especially if travellers base themselves at Marseille St-Charles. The premier station in the city, St-Charles offers easy journeys to popular coastal resorts, as well as enticing cities. And if a southern city break is on the cards, there are very few better destinations than Toulon.
You can board a regional TER train or a high-speed TGV train to travel from Marseille to Toulon. It takes just under an hour, or as little as 45-minutes on TGV INOUI services.
One of the world's great ports, Toulon is an incredible destination for lovers of the sea. You’ll find the Museum of the Sea here, which will be a revelation for history fans. The same applies to the Second World War-themed Musée Mémorial du Débarquement, and Toulon's excellent Photography Museum. But it's just as fun to kick back in a restaurant by the harbour and watch the world pass by.
