Trains to Shawford

Shawford train station is used by the small community of Twyford and the surrounding villages in Hampshire around 15 miles north of Southampton. It was started in the late 19th-century by the then London and South Western Railway. Interestingly, the station has featured in several productions including the ‘70s film Brief Encounter starring Sophia Loren and the British TV series One Foot in the Grave. The station is unstaffed and there's no ticket office, though there are self-service machines. The original brick goods yard is still intact, though it was sold off some time ago to private investors. The station and the trains that pass through are managed by South Western Railway. There’s an hourly direct train to Southampton Central, with a journey time of approximately 18 minutes. There's also a northbound train to Basingstoke each hour, taking approximately 22 minutes.

When you step off at Shawford train station, you’ll be at the edge of the South Downs, a national park opened in 2011 with woodland, chalk hills and spectacular walking trails. Just remember to bring your walking boots.
