Prudhoe train station lies on the Tyne Valley Line between Newcastle and Carlisle. The town of Prudhoe, Northumberland surrounds Prudhoe Castle and is situated on the steep slope of the south bank of the River Tyne. The original castle was a Norman motte and bailey built sometime in the 11th century. During the invasion of William the Lion of Scotland in 1173, Prudhoe Castle was the only Norman fortification in Northumberland to resist capture.  

Prudhoe train station was originally opened in 1835. Today, Northern provides the majority of train services from Prudhoe, with half hourly services each way Monday to Saturday. The fastest journey time to Newcastle is 21 minutes.  

There are two platforms at the station, each with separate step free access, linked by a stepped footbridge over the line or via the level crossing on Station Road. Connections to local bus services can be found in the car park to the south of platform 2.
