Opened in 1845 Prestbury train station serves the Cheshire village of Prestbury, a mile and a half to the north of Macclesfield. The station lies on the Stoke to Manchester Line between Macclesfield and Adlington and Northern provides an hourly train service in service in each direction from Prestbury train station. The journey time to Manchester Piccadilly is 30 minutes. The Manchester bound platform 1 has step free access from the station car park, but the Macclesfield can only be accessed via a footbridge. Bus connections can be made from the nearby New Road.
During the 19th century the village of Prestbury became involved in the silk industry but improved communications in the 20th century led it to take on a more residential role. Today, Prestbury village makes up the “Cheshire Golden Triangle” with Wilmslow and Alderley Edge. They are some of the most sought after and expensive places to live outside of London today.
