Polesworth train station is situated between Tamworth and Nuneaton on the Trent Valley section of the West Coast Main Line. The station serves the village of Polesworth in Warwickshire. During the modernisation of the West Coast Main Line in 2005 the footbridge between the two platforms was removed and has not been replaced, meaning there is now only accessible to the northbound platform 1. The station now only receives one train per day, the 07.23 service between Northampton and Crewe, provided by London Northwestern Railway. The train, known as a Parliamentary Train, fulfils the train company’s obligation under the Parliament Act of 1844 to have at least one service per day. The one platform at Polesworth train station has level access from the car park. There are no other facilities at this station; tickets need to be purchased in advance or on the train.
The population or Polesworth saw a rapid growth from the 1770s when the Coventry Canal was built and a coal and clay industry developed. Opencast coal mining was prevalent in the area during the Second World War. The mine, to the north of the village, is no longer in use and has reverted to a country park.
