Lochwinnoch train station is a small station on the Ayrshire Coast Line, 20 miles west of Glasgow. Trains from Lochwinnoch run to Glasgow Central and the seaside town of Largs. From Largs, you can take the ferry to Great Cumbrae, the larger of the two islands known as The Cumbraes in the lower Firth of Clyde.

The village of Lochwinnoch lies between two lochs (Castle Semple Loch and Barr Loch), with a third (Kilbirnie Loch) slightly to the southwest. It is a small residential village with a handful of pubs, churches, a school, and an RSPB nature reserve.
