Copplestone railway station lies in the heart of Devon in the South West. Its one platform is served by the Tarka Line which is managed and run along with the trains by Great Western Railway. It was opened in the mid-19th century and has long served the surrounding local villages. There’s very little in the way of facilities, just an electronic help point and a timetable display. It’s a community rail with several volunteers helping to maintain the station platform with support from the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership. There’s an hourly direct service to Exeter St Davids taking just 32 minutes.
Though there is very little to do in Copplestone itself bar a cosy old country pub. You’re not far from the Dartmoor National Park, an almost 1,000-square-kilometre land of stark, craggy moorland that makes for scenic horse riding, climbing and hiking. Just remember your hiking boots and camera.
