Crediton railway station lies just a few miles outside Exeter in the heart of East Devon. It’s got some serious architectural pedigree having been designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. It was opened in the mid-19th century by the Exeter and Crediton Railway. Later, it serves passing trains on a line towards Barnstaple and services from London on their way through to Okehampton. The station was once used by a creamery in Crediton who transported milk in train wagons to London every day, though this was later closed. Today, the station is on the junction of the Tarka and Dartmoor lines. The old station buildings are still in fine condition and used by award-winning café. Throughout the peak weekdays, there is a train every hour departing to Exeter Central in just 15 minutes and Barnstable in 55 minutes.
There’s much to keep you busy when you arrive in the small town. Bring your clubs to tee off at the Downes Credition Golf Club, catch one of the local matches at the Crediton United Football Ground, or admire the historic Libbets Well.
