Small but tidy, Acle Railway Station connects the charming market town of Acle to the rest of Norfolk via the Norwich-Great Yarmouth line. Located less than a mile from the town centre and lush River Bure, the two-platform station is full of history dating back to its construction in 1881. The line was originally opened in 1883 by Great Eastern Railway along the Wherry Lines, rural tracks that cross the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads, as an extension of the existing northern route between Norwich and Great Yarmouth.
Today trains to Acle are operated by Abellio Greater Anglia, calling once an hour in both directions, Monday through Saturday. As in 1883, the Wherry Lines are not electrified, so every train on the line through Acle is diesel-powered with a maximum speed of 60 mph. Station facilities include customer help points, lost property, a ramp to train access, cycle storage, taxi information, and a carpark.
