Renfe is the national train operator in Spain. It has the widest network of high-speed trains in Europe, linking major cities with AVE, AV-City, Avant, Alvia, and Euromed trains. The Trenhotel is Renfe's night train service, which serves national and international routes in Portugal. The trains offer three classes with different levels of comfort for the beds and seats – Turista (Second Class), Preferente (First Class) and Gran Confort or Gran Clase. There are six different Trenhotel routes – Galicia (Barcelona – Vigo), Rosalía de Castro (Barcelona – A Coruña), Rías Gallegas (Madrid – Pontevedra), Atlántico (Madrid – Ferrol), Lusitania (Madrid – Lisbon) and Surexpreso (Irun – Lisbon).

Renfe's Media Distancia are regional trains operated by CAF locomotives that operate medium-distance routes that are not operated by Avant high-speed trains. Most trains Media Distancia trains are one class. However, there are some that will have Turista (Second Class) and Preferente (First Class). These trains also have spaces for bicycles, and all seats are equipped with power sockets and reading lights.
