Trains from France to Italy

Two routes are covered by Thello –

• Venice to Paris night route – indicated on the map by the dark line, Venice to Paris is served by the Thello night train, which stops in Padua, Vicenza, Verona, Brescia and Milan.
• Milan to Marseille day route – indicated on the map by the white line, the route from Milan to Marseille is covered by the Thello day train, which stops in Pavia, Genoa and Savona.

The route from Rome to Milan marked by dashes is served by Trenitalia. If you're travelling on a route which requires a combination of Thello and Trenitalia services – such as Paris to Rome – you'll need to purchase a 'Promo Thello' ticket. More on that below.

Thello night trains

Learn more about the types of accommodation on board the Thello night train – there’s an option for every budget.

The couchette

Couchettes are 4 or 6-berth compartments with flat bunk beds – perfect for travelling with family or friends. A good option if you want to save money while enjoying a practical travel solution.

The standard bed-cabin

Standard cabins come as one, two or three-bed compartments. Each cabin has a washbasin and comes with complimentary toiletries for each traveller, including a toothbrush and toothpaste, slippers, ear plugs and an eye mask.

The Premium cabin

The latest addition to Thello is the Premium cabin, available as a one or two-bed compartments. Equipped with a private shower and toilet, Premium cabins are ideal for those who love travelling without giving up their comfort.

Thello day trains

Discover which services are available on board the Thello day train and choose the class that’s right for you.

Day trains run between Milan and Marseille, crossing the French Riviera, including Nice, and the Ligurian Coast. You can find two classes on board the day train –

First Class

Thello’s First Class offers larger reclining armchairs and luggage space. What’s more, each seat comes with a reclining table, reading lights and power sockets.

Second Class

Second-class coaches provide 2 seats and specially equipped toilets for disabled passengers travelling on wheelchairs.

Air conditioning is available in all coaches. If you fancy a drink or snack, head to coach 13 between the First and Second Class and you’ll find the corner bar, where you can choose from a wide range of sandwiches, salads, desserts, sweet and savoury snacks, cold drinks and coffee.

All tickets are named. Don't worry about having to print your ticket – just quote your booking reference (PNR code) on your confirmation email on the train when asked. You can book tickets up to 6 months in advance.

Smart

Smart tickets are the cheapest option, but they can’t be changed or refunded. You can book these tickets – which are subject to limited seat availability – up to 7 days before your departure on all cabins except for the Premium Cabin.

Flexi

You're free to make alterations to your booking (such as changing the departure time or date) and you can request a full refund up to 24 hours before departure, minus a €10 fee.

Promo

Promo tickets are for routes which require you to take a Frecce train in combination with a Thello night train. It secures your seat on the Thello service and gives you a discount of between 30% and 50% on your Frecce ticket.

Mini Group

Mini Group tickets are convenient for groups of 2 to 5 people travelling together on Thello. You can change your ticket free of charge and get a 90% refund should you opt not to travel.
