Times and timetables

If you're looking for Irish Rail train times and timetables, simply type in your origin and destination stations and select the time you want to travel in the widget above, and we'll show you times for all available trains for today, tomorrow and beyond.

All of our train times pages show the first and last train times for the day. Most Irish Rail trains follow a standard Monday-Friday and weekend service timetable, however, there are sometimes alterations to these times that could affect your journey.

Most Iarnród Éireann services run throughout the day, with fewer or no trains operating during the early hours of the morning. On most routes, services typically begin between 05:00 am and 06:30 am and finish between 10:00 pm and midnight, depending on the route and day of travel.

To search for the first train of the day, simply enter your departure and arrival stations in our tool and choose an early morning time — this will usually display the first available service.

To find the last train of the day, select a late evening time and use the earlier/later options to scroll through services. If you’ve missed the last train, the tool will show the first available departure on the following day.

Irish Rail Peak & Off-Peak train times

Unlike some UK operators, Iarnród Éireann does not operate a strict nationwide Peak and Off-Peak ticket system with fixed time bands. Instead, fares are generally based on demand, route and ticket type.

However, a few general patterns apply:

  • Peak travel times are typically weekday mornings (around 06:00 am – 09:30 am) and evenings (around 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm), when trains are busiest — especially on commuter routes into cities like Dublin and Cork.
  • Off-peak travel usually applies outside these busy periods, offering quieter trains and, in some cases, lower fares when booked in advance.
  • Online advance fares are often the cheapest option and are tied to specific trains rather than time bands.
  • Some commuter services offer flexible tickets that can be used across multiple services within a day.

You can use our train times tool to check which services are available and compare ticket options. Always review the conditions of your specific ticket, as flexibility and pricing can vary depending on the journey.

Please note we don’t sell Irish Rail tickets just yet — but it’s coming soon to Trainline.
