At Trainline, it's our people who make us who we are

Meet the people who are helping us blaze new trails and make a positive difference to the lives of millions of travellers.

Jody Ford (Chief Executive Officer)

Jody joined Trainline in September 2020, bringing with him extensive experience innovating consumer-facing digital and technology businesses, helping them transform and grow across new sectors, markets and audiences.  He has a relentless focus on using data and insight to improve the customer experience, inspiring his teams, and driving innovation to deliver performance and growth.

Previously, he was CEO at Photobox Group, Europe's leading personalisation business, which encompassed the Moonpig and Photobox brands.  Prior to Photobox Group, he spent 10 years at eBay, latterly in California, leading the Growth function globally, and held a number of roles at Orange, McKinsey & Co, and PwC Consulting.

Outside work, Jody enjoys spending time with his wife and three children as well as walking, cycling, music, and cocktail-making. His favourite train journey is from Paris to Aix-en-Provence, a fantastic high-speed TGV train experience that takes you to the south of France in less than four hours, with beautiful views en route.

Pete Wood (Chief Finance Officer)

Pete joined us in February 2015 and became CFO in December 2022. Prior to this he served as VP of Finance, leading financial control, planning, and analysis, and had a central role in engagement with industry and regulatory stakeholders. Pete also played a key role in our IPO.

Prior to Trainline, Pete spent 9 years at eBay both as a finance leader and in various commercial roles. He holds a Master's degree in Engineering from the University of Cambridge.

Outside work Pete and his wife enjoy challenging their two daughters to new ideas and experiences, and he escapes their challenges by trail running with his dogs in the Surrey hills. He loves train journeys that offer a different view to his commute with his favourite so far being along the coast between Napoli and Pompeii.

Milena Nikolic (Chief Technology Officer)

Milena is responsible for driving Trainline’s innovation and tech vision – both in helping customers have a more seamless travel experience and helping the rail industry leverage Trainline’s platform to put rail at the heart of more journeys. Before Trainline, Milena spent 12 years at Google Play, leading the engineering teams in charge of app distribution and developer experience. Having started her career as a software engineer, Milena has a wealth of experience designing systems and providing technical leadership across products related to search, mobile services, and software distribution.

Her favourite journey is an overnight train from London to Bourg St Maurice, which brings many happy memories of skiing holidays.

Pete Wade (Chief Commercial Officer)

Pete joined us in 2018, bringing with him 20 years’ experience in consumer internet (15 years in the UK and five years in California). As an Economics grad from Oxford University, his CV spans 11 years at eBay, where he held roles in Internet Marketing, Analytics and Finance. But, more recently, he was CFO of LADbible – the largest and fastest-growing publisher of social video in the world.

Pete’s contagious energy is well vested in delivering our growth mission – to find, acquire and engage potential and existing rail and bus travellers around the world. His choice to live outside London, with his wife and two sons in Cheshire, means he travels over 1,000 miles by train every week to get to and from work! When he’s not sat on a train, he enjoys playing outdoor activities, like cycling, football and rugby, with his family.

His favourite train journey is Barcelona to Seville, which he took on a recent family tour of Spain – “Travelling by train was far more relaxing than air with a family, and you get a real sense of the country you’re visiting.” But, a close second is his train home to Wilmslow from Euston after a long week.

Mike Hyde (Chief Data Officer)

Mike brings over 20 years experience of leading data teams and organisations, combining data analytics, engineering and business strategy roles. Mike spent the last 4 years at Facebook as the overall head of data science and engineering for Workplace by Facebook. Prior to that he led the data and insights capability at Microsoft for the Skype consumer product, and Skype for Business.

He has previously held data analytics roles in AlixPartners and other consulting companies, using data to build business strategies across a range of industries. Outside of work, Mike lives in north Kent with his wife and two children and is into motorcycling, boating, bell ringing, and occasional DJing.

His favourite train journey is the overnight sleeper service from Cologne to Vienna, a magical journey through mountains and alongside the Rhine.

Dave Price (Chief Product Officer)

Dave joined Trainline in July 2020 to lead the Product, Design and Research teams.

He has spent more than 20 years in Product Management, with a track record leading some of today’s most world-renowned digital products. From the UK’s largest video-on-demand service, BBC iPlayer, to the number one global streaming service, Spotify, Dave has helped develop products well-loved and respected across the world.

Dave’s passion for travel extends to his personal life. Prior to joining Trainline, he took a year out to travel around the world with his wife and three children. Beyond travel, Dave enjoys most sports and has ruined many good walks while attempting to play golf.

His favourite train journey was from Nuwara Eliya to Ella in Sri Lanka. In the UK, the line passing by the sea in Dawlish, Devon brings back happy memories of regular childhood trips to Cornwall.

Lisa Hillier (Chief People Officer)

Lisa joined Trainline in February 2021 as Chief People Officer. She has more than 25 years of experience within Human Resources most of which has been spent in Plc environments.

Lisa has a passion for leading the People Agenda in disruptive, high-growth international businesses. For the 10 years prior to joining Trainline, Lisa was the Chief People Officer in high growth consumer-led digital businesses, most significantly at Betfair and Just Eat.

Lisa’s favourite rail journey is London Liverpool Street to Norwich – she associates this journey with going back to her childhood home and visiting her friends and family who still live there.

James Hanratty (General Counsel)

James leads Trainline’s Legal and Regulatory functions and sees these functions as business enablers, encouraging his team to be integrated into the heart of the business. It is this approach that saw his team awarded Legal Department of the Year by the British Legal Awards 2018 and the Legal 500 UK Awards 2019.

Prior to joining Trainline in 2009, James spent four years in private practice at the leading UK law firm, Travers Smith LLP, where he trained and qualified into the Commercial, IP, and IT team acting for a variety of private and listed clients in relation to commercial and regulatory matters. James is an English Law qualified solicitor.

Away from work, James enjoys spending time with his wife and three sons and loves music and sport, particularly cycling, football, and cricket. His favourite train journey is the short hop from Dijon to Beaune in the Burgundy region of France which brings back happy memories of magical student summers.

Martin Sheehan (Chief Corporate Affairs Officer)

Martin is responsible for Trainline’s Government Affairs, Industry Relations and Communications functions, in all of the company’s key markets across Europe. He joined Trainline in October 2021, bringing over 20 years of experience in strategic communications.

He previously worked at Portland, the leading strategic communications consultancy where he helped guide the growth of the company for 13 years as International Managing Director, before moving to a Senior Advisor role for a range of global brands, governments, philanthropic and foundation clients. For over 10 years in the UK government, he also advised Prime Ministers Blair and Brown in 10 Downing Street, where he was Head of Strategic Communications.

Martin lives in North-West London with his wife, daughter and dog Ozzie (named after his favourite footballer from the 1980s). He loves all sports, in particular, football, music and is a huge Larry David fan. During the pandemic, he developed his skills as an amateur barista and gardener.

His favourite train journey is from Aberdeen to Bristol. It reminds him of his childhood when he travelled with his family to spend Christmas with his grandma.
