More about the Talyllyn Railway

The Talyllyn Railway – also known as 'The Railway with a Heart of Gold' – was first opened in 1865 and travels through seven miles of stunning Welsh scenery including meadows, woodlands and waterfalls.

There are several stops along the line, each of which has its own charming character and areas to explore, including Tywyn Wharf, Pendre, Rhydyronen Brynglas, Dolgoch, Abergynolwyn and Nant Gwernol. Hop off at Dolgoch to visit the nearby waterfalls or Rhydyronen for scenic mountain walks.

The journey along the line takes around 55 minutes one way, so we recommend allowing at least half a day to take your time exploring the areas around the stations, as well as enjoying the comfortable steam locomotive ride.
