What does Trainline do?

Trainline is an independent booking platform for rail and bus tickets. They aggregate official train and bus tickets from 270 ticket providers and make it simple to book tickets for trains and buses in the UK and Europe.

When you book a ticket with Trainline, you won’t be sent to an external or third-party site like many other affiliate travel websites out there. They bring every carrier’s tickets into one app/website, meaning you can book your trip from Paris to Milan, and your morning commute into central London, all in the same place. That’s why Trainline is used by commuters, adventurers, holidaymakers and business travellers alike.

Is Trainline legitimate?

Tickets are always valid for travel when bought through Trainline, so, if you’re wondering if Trainline’s tickets are legitimate, then the answer is yes! Trainline doesn’t buy tickets in advance and re-sell them; they connect directly to the train company’s ticketing system through some clever tech they built, and process everything for you to make the booking process as easy as possible so you don’t jump from site to site.

For certain routes you will have the option of using a mobile ticket – which is stored on the Trainline app – or an e-ticket, which is sent to you by email with your booking confirmation. You can print e-tickets at home or show/scan the barcode on your phone at the ticket barriers. Whilst there’s nothing wrong with being organised and having all your tickets printed for your trip, make sure you consider the environment before printing them out! Mobile tickets are a great option for saving paper.

In some cases with certain regional train or bus operators, Trainline may need to connect through one of its distribution partners to get the tickets to you. Regardless, the ticket will still be valid.

Can you trust Trainline? In short, yes! In fact, Trainline are official members of the American Society of Travel Advisors - the world's leading association of travel professionals!

Trainline is an official distributor for over 270 train and bus companies, including:
