Travel update for UK customers

Following guidance issued by the Rail Delivery Group on 6th March, temporary ticket flexibility is in place for customers travelling with National Rail in connection with flights to or from Middle Eastern countries.

Please note:
This policy applies only to flights landing at airports in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales). It does not apply to flights landing in Northern Ireland or outside Great Britain. The situation remains under review and this guidance may be updated.

If your inbound flight lands at your expected GB airport, but at a different date or time

  • All time restrictions are removed.
  • Your ticket will be valid on your day of arrival, regardless of the original date shown.
  • If you arrive too late to complete your journey, your ticket will also be valid the following day.
  • You must provide proof of travel from a Middle Eastern country.

If your inbound flight lands at a different GB airport than planned

  • All time restrictions are removed.
  • Your ticket will be valid on your day of arrival, or the following day if you arrive too late to travel.
  • Your ticket can be used from the nearest appropriate National Rail station serving the airport where you land.
  • You must provide proof of travel from a Middle Eastern country.

Please note: This does not include non-National Rail services such as airport bus links or Direct Air-Rail Transit services.

If your outbound flight to the Middle East is cancelled

You are entitled to a full refund with no admin fee, including:

  • Unused tickets
  • Partially or fully used tickets (if you returned home)
  • Normally non-refundable tickets (such as Advance tickets)

This applies to tickets to or from airport stations (including London Terminals).

You must provide proof of your cancelled Middle East flight.

Tickets Involving Travel Across London

If your ticket includes a cross-London transfer (shown with the † or + symbol):

  • London Underground and DLR travel is only valid on the date shown on your ticket.
  • If you travel on a different date, you’ll need to buy a separate ticket or use contactless/Oyster for the London Underground or DLR portion of your journey.
  • London Buses and London Trams cannot be used as alternatives.
  • TfL journeys must be paid for as normal if outside the ticket’s validity.

We understand this may be a stressful time for those affected. Please speak to station staff if you need assistance, and ensure you have proof of your flight when travelling.
