What tickets can I save on?
There are two types of tickets included in the Great British Rail Sale, both of which must be booked at least 7 days in advance:
Advance train tickets
Single tickets for A to B rail journeys that are available to book ahead of time. Only valid for the time and date specified on the ticket.

Off-Peak train tickets
Semi-flexible tickets that let you travel by train at certain times of the day, certain days in the week or on specific routes. These may be offered as part of the Great British Rail Sale if an operator does not offer Advance tickets.

Are there any restrictions on Great British Rail Sale tickets?
There are a few things to remember when you’re searching for the best deal on Great British Rail Sale tickets:
- Tickets may be limited between 30 January and 5 February for some train operators due to industrial action.
- Great British Rail Sale tickets are available for many routes in England and Wales, as well as some to and from Scotland.
- You must buy Great British Rail Sale tickets at least 7 days before travel. For example, if you want to travel on 31st January, you need to buy tickets by 24th January at the latest.
- Discounted Great British Rail Sale tickets are not available on all routes. Where they’re available, we’ll show them in our Journey Planner.
- You can’t use a Railcard on tickets bought as part of the Great British Rail Sale.
- Great British Rail Sale tickets are for Standard Class travel, unless the operator specifies otherwise.
- Great British Rail Sale tickets are not refundable unless the service you are booked to travel on is delayed or cancelled and you choose not to travel.
