Watford High Street is a London Overground station that provides this Hertfordshire commuter town with fast links to Euston, and also connects to the major interchange at Watford Junction, just one stop to the north. The Watford and Rickmansworth Railway opened the station in 1862, and in 2007 the line was taken over by Transport for London - there are now plans to extend London Underground's Metropolitan line to the town, returning metro lines to Watford High Street for the first time in decades.
Situated in the south end of Watford's busy High Street, the station is just minutes' walk from the shops, including the intu Watford Shopping Centre, (formerly the Harlequin Centre), which is the largest mall in Hertfordshire. Culture buffs will be pleased to learn that Watford Palace Theatre and Watford Museum are also close by. The latter houses a gallery of fine art and exhibitions on the town's heritage.
