Warrington West train station is located west of central Warrington on the existing southern Liverpool to Manchester Line route between Sankey and Warrington Central stations.

Since 2019, the station has had two trains each hour in both directions – one express train running between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Airport via Manchester Piccadilly and one stopping train between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Oxford Road. All trains to and from Warrington West railway station are operated by Northern.
