One of two stations serving the town of Warrington, Warrington Central Railway Station sees regular Northern trains operating on the Liverpool to Manchester Line. Eight trains from Warrington Central depart hourly, of which two in each direction are Northern stopping services to Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Oxford Road. TransPennine Express operates an hourly service between Liverpool Lime Street, as well as an express hourly service to Scarborough via Leeds and York. East Midlands Railway operates an additional hourly service in each direction to Liverpool and Norwich respectively.
Somewhat unusually, none of the lines passing through Warrington Central are electrified; as a result, the station is served by diesel trains only. The main station buildings still stand but are largely in private or corporate use. The station is staffed with a customer service office open until mid-afternoon most days. At all other times, passengers should use the self-service ticketing machines installed at the station ahead of travel. Train running information is provided via digital display screens and automated announcements. Payphones, refreshments, and toilet facilities are provided for customer use. There is good step-free access via lift to all platforms.
