Tooting station is in the south London Borough of Merton, in Travelcard Zone 3, and is served by Thameslink on the Sutton Loop Line. The station dates back to 1894, and was originally known as Tooting Junction, replacing an earlier station of the same name found further along the line. It was renamed Tooting in 1938. Today it sees plenty of commuter traffic, with regular trains to London Blackfriars and Wimbledon. The journey to Blackfriars takes just over 20 minutes.
The area itself is a vibrant suburb with plenty of green space and a thriving high street. Tooting lido, the largest of its kind in the UK, is a particular highlight, found on Tooting Common. If you're peckish, Asian cuisine is Tooting's forte - head to 'curry corridor' between Tooting Bec and Tooting Broadway. Look out too for the Gala Bingo hall, a charming Grade I-listed former 1930s cinema that once hosted gigs by Frank Sinatra and Carmen Miranda.
