Thames Ditton station is in the Elmbridge district of Surrey, in Travelcard Zone 6. Opened in 1849, it's a commuter station, with much of the local population taking the 33-minute journey to and from London Waterloo on weekdays. The station also serves Esher college students. The next stop along the line is the historic Hampton Court, although the historic mansion can also be reached on foot in around ten minutes.
The High Street of this quaint village is a conservation area, with loads of independent businesses, from greengrocers to art galleries. There are also several traditional pubs in the village, some with charming riverside views. Other attractions include Island Barn Reservoir, a large body of water that's home to a local sailing club. It adjoins Neilson Recreation Ground, a green space on the banks of the Mole and Ember rivers - just one of the large number of parks and sports fields that characterise the area.
