Sutton Coldfield station lies just to the north of the Birmingham suburb's town centre. It is on the Cross City Line, which runs from Redditch to Lichfield via Birmingham New Street, with at least three trains per hour heading south to the city. Travel time to Birmingham New Street is about 20 minutes.
Visitors coming by train to Sutton Coldfield are following in the footsteps of the Victorian tourists who travelled on the then-new railway - the station was opened in 1862 - to take a day trip out of smoke of industrial Birmingham. Just as today, the 2000-acre Sutton Park was a big attraction for people seeking to escape the city and enjoy the natural open spaces of the area. It was this popularity that helped the town grow into the thriving commuter town it is today. These days, as well as outdoor pursuits, shopping and dining out are also high on the agenda for day trippers.
