Stratford station is located in a large multi-network rail hub in east London. The London Overground, London Underground and Docklands Light Railway (DLR) all converge on this crucial transport node. The station's proper title is Stratford (London) to avoid confusion with Stratford-upon-Avon and nearby Stratford International. It is also known as Stratford Regional. The station is one of the busiest in London and the twelfth busiest in the country, serving over 25 million passengers each and every year, and it serves as the main overground rail thoroughfare for the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with its aquatics centre, the London Stadium, Lee Valley VeloPark and ArcelorMittal Orbit observation tower stirring up fond memories of London 2012. The original station was opened in 1839, with its then engine shed now the plot of the sprawling and hugely popular Westfield Shopping Centre. Between 1923 and 1947, the station and rail links were considerably developed despite disturbance from the outbreak of WW2.

Stratford station is a labyrinth of platforms and corridors. It's best to stick to the lower concourse in the centre of the station, where timetables and information screens can easily be found. There are 12 platforms in total, all accessed by a subway. Step-free access to platforms 3, 5, 6 and 8 are via the western subway only. To travel between Stratford Regional and Stratford International, walk through the Westfield Shopping Centre.
