Spital railway station is used by the neighbourhood of Spital just a few miles south of Birkenhead and Liverpool. It’s managed, along with the trains that pass by on the Wirral Line, by Merseyrail. There is a modern ticket office opened throughout the week as well a self-service ticket machine. Though the two-platform station is small, it serves more than 400,000 passengers every year. Facilities include bench seating, a cycle rack, digital passenger information displays and modern glass waiting shelters on both sides of the tracks. Unfortunately, there is currently only step access to both the platforms. There are up to five trains an hour direct to Liverpool Lime Street in 20 minutes and four an hour direct to Chester in 23 minutes.
There’s plenty of things to do when you step off at Spital, but the biggest draw is the Brotherton Park & Dibbinsdale Local Nature Reserve when you can walk along the Dibbinsdale Brook and spot myriad wildlife species.
