Spean Bridge railway station lies in the heart of the Scottish Highlands and serves the little community of Spean Bridge. It was opened in the late-19th century by the West Highlands Railway and once served a line up to Fort Augustus next to Loch Ness until its closure in the early ‘30s. Today, the station and the trains that stop at the two platforms are operated by Abellio ScotRail. The original brick and slate-roofed station building still exists today but is no longer used as the ticket office. It’s a scenic little station surrounded by greenery and has facilities which include benches, help points and timetable posters. There’s one train a day direct to Glasgow Queen Street in 3 hours 33 minutes and Edinburgh Waverley in 5 hours.
The tiny village lies along the banks of the River Spean. When you disembark, you’ll be just a stone’s throw from the rolling fairways of the Spean Bridge Golf Club. Alternatively, dive into the Spean Bridge Woollen Mill to pick up some Scottish souvenirs.
