South Hampstead railway station serves the community of the same name in North West London in the borough of Camden. It was opened in the late-19th century originally as ‘Loudon Road’, though it was changed to its present name in the early 1920s. It might be a small, two-platform station, but that doesn’t stop it serving more than half a million people every year. Unfortunately, the original station buildings were torn down in the 1960s and an unattractive, functional ticket office was rebuilt on the same site though there are still remnants of the pretty overhanging roof canopies and footbridge over the platforms. Here, you can board one of the three trains an hour to London Euston in 10 minutes or board the hourly direct service to Watford Junction in 41 minutes.
You’re simply spoiled for choice when it comes to things to do in South Hampstead. Newbies to the area should make a beeline for the beautiful Regent's Park or catch a glimpse of the gorillas and lions at London Zoo. Alternatively, if you visit at the right time, you could score tickets for one of the matches at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
