Built in the mid-1800s, South Bermondsey train station in the London Borough of Southwark serves the district of Bermondsey, between London Bridge and Queens Road, Peckham. Particularly on match days, the station sees a spike in passenger numbers as fans flock to the New Den Stadium, home to Millwall Football Club. A five-minute walk through 'The Cage', a covered and fenced walkway, leads away supporters to the visitor's end of the stadium.
Those not going to a game could wander the parade of shops on Ilderton Road, a mainly residential area, or head north for the high-street and independent shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. Some of the most expensive areas of London, through Southwark Park, ten minutes' walk away, are along the River Thames' wharf area.
The station operates regular services throughout London, to London Bridge, Wimbledon, Beckenham Junction and West Croydon. Services head out of London, to Epsom in Surrey, with a journey time of around fifty minutes.
