Slateford train station is used by the Edinburgh neighbourhood of Slateford and was opened in the mid-19th-century to serve as a commuter stop into the city. The line that passes through the station was always used by freighters carrying mainly steel and coal loads. Today, the station and the trains that pass through are managed by Abellio ScotRail. It’s a basic, unstaffed station with no facilities for purchasing tickets, though most commuters use the smartcard validators. Facilities at the station include little more than waiting shelters and timetable posters as well as a footbridge which connects the two platforms. There’s an hourly direct train to Edinburgh (Waverley), though this service decreases on Sundays.

When you step off at Slateford, you’ll be right next to the Meggetland Sports Complex where you can go walking around the park or have a kick around on the football pitches. For a little nightlife, look no further than the Edinburgh Corn Exchange, a former hall that’s been converted into a live music venue.
