Shrewsbury station is located in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Regular services operated by Avanti West Coast and Transport for Wales connect London to Shrewsbury in 2h 27m, Cardiff to Shrewsbury in 1h 49m and Birmingham to Shrewsbury in 55m.
Shrewsbury station was opened in 1849 and designed by architect T. M. Penson. Its Tudor-style architecture, complete with carved heads on the window frames, purposefully matches the historic Shrewsbury School, opposite, which was once the educational home of Shrewsbury’s most famous son, Charles Darwin, but is now a library. The station, meanwhile, was extended in 1901 and is most memorable for its location – platforms reach out over the River Severn gifting train travellers a wonderful view of the town as their carriage rolls to a halt.
One of England’s most popular medieval towns, this beautiful city’s spires and hanging baskets are easy to fall in love with. Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery, Quarry Park, and Victoria Quay – perfect for a boat trip – are must-visit locations. But it’s the history of Shrewsbury that really stands out, with over 600 listed buildings and the famous heritage site of 1403 Battle of Shrewsbury a short distance from the town.
